23-24 January 2010
With the freezing wintry conditions now behind us, at least for the time being, the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club is looking forward to a busy sailing weekend over 23 and 24 January. Two races in the Pallot Windows Frostbite Series, postponed due to poor weather conditions, will be run back-to-back in St Aubin's Bay on the Saturday morning starting at 9 o'clock.
Up to twenty cruiser/racers are expected to participate with racing going on throughout the morning and, maybe, into the early afternoon depending on wind strength. The last race in the series takes place that Sunday starting at 10 o'clock in the Bay, followed by a prize-giving and a sponsored lunch in the RCIYC clubhouse. The organisers fingers are firmly crossed for the current bout of fine weather to continue.
With just two of the five races completed, so far, David Jones' Beneteau 34.7, Jackana, leads in IRC Class 1, just one point ahead of Rhys Perkins' Archambault 35, Abracadabra, the latter having fallen victim to a blown mainsail in the last race. The Sugden/Baines X362s, ExhibX, lies third. David Williams' quarter-tonner, the Conrad 760 Tom Bombadil, is three points ahead of Jeff Speller's Farr 727, 2Farr, in IRC Class 2 with Helen Barker's Farr 727, Arbitrator, lying third. Mark Tucker's Westerly Merlin leads in the Jersey Handicap Class, just one point ahead of Chris Fritot's Hunter Sonata.
With three races to go, there is plenty of opportunity for the tables to be turned before the event comes to a close.
The next three back-to-back races in the RCIYC's Winter Dinghy Series also take place in St Aubin's Bay on 23rd January, with the first race starting at 10 o'clock. In Class A, Martin Speller's Laser Radial, Liquid Logic, currently leads from David Carter's Low Fly, also a Radial, on countback, each boat having scored five points. Jeff Speller's Radial, Y2K, lies third with eight points. Mary Perkins' Geronimo, leads in the all-Optimist Class B just one point ahead of Elizabeth Ellison's Whatever! Nick Ellison lies third sailing Bart. The final six races are scheduled for dates in March.
