The last day of racing at the Mark Foy Trophy, after a week of intense competition, saw ideal Breton conditions; sun, no sea and a westerly wind of 13 to 15 knots.
The start of the first race was at around 1.15 pm, the competitors were all ready to try and climb a few places in the overall rankings. The conditions having changed, the leaders for this race changed too. Rob Greenhalgh was still in first place, proving at ease with light or more sustained winds, followed by the Australians on Asko and the Danish on GP Covers.
The second race of the day was launched at 2.30pm, the eleventh of the Mark Foy Trophy despite the difficult conditions. After a good start, the three Australian teams took the lead and imposed themselves; Grant Rollerson on Slam first, Dan Wilson on Asko second and Trevor Barnabas third.
Rob Greenhalgh, Dan Johnson and Phil Harmer were therefore the winners of this first edition of the Mark Foy Trophy. Rob has already won everything in the world of skiffs; the JJ Giltinan Trophy, the 18ft Europeans as well as the International 14 Worlds. He has confirmed his place together with the most famous sailors of this sport.
Once again, the Yacht Club de Carnac has lived up to its reputation by organising this prestigeous international championship. The flag of the club was handed over to the president, Don Roach, of the Double Bay Club in Sydney where the Australian 18 foot skiff league is located, by the president of the Yacht Club de Carnac, Yves Rouillard, as a sign of friendship and exchanges between the two clubs. The YCC will welcome back the Mark Foy Trophy again in three years after Sydney and San Francisco.
